EasterI hope everyone had a great Easter. We had a wonderful time at our house. I decided to host at our house this year. My sister and her family visited the house for the first time. It was great to get to spend time with them. We only get to see them a handful of times every year because they live a few hours away. I was delighted when they decided to come down Friday afternoon
and Saturday. We got to go bowling and out for pizza Friday evening. We did Easter activities at our house Saturday morning before eating lunch. Mom and Dad stayed over night as well, so they got to hang out with all the kids and grandkids for a nice visit.
Mom put together her annual Easter egg hunt. Every year she chooses 4-5 different colors/designs of plastic eggs. Each color of egg is assigned team that tries to find them. Once you find your team's eggs you open them up and find clues in them. The first person to find their eggs and figure out their clue wins. This year she put an alphabet letter in each egg. You had to figure out what word(s) your letters spelled. My dad and my husband ended up being one of the teams. Somehow they ended up searching for the pastel speckled eggs. After several attempts to spell their word Mom had to give up and tell them their clue... It was "Brittany S" for Brittany Spears. Everyone laughed because my Dad and my husband would never even think of her name in a million years, but my sister and I would have because we are going to her concert together in a few weeks. My mom had intended those plastic eggs for my sis and I but it was even more fun seeing my Dad and hubby's faces as they tried to put their word together.
After our egg hunt and exchanging baskets we gathered for a simple (read that as "this preggie lady doesn't have the energy to cook a fancy shmancy meal") but yummy meal. I think the simple meal of gondolas, chicken fingers the size of your head, beans, salad, chips and dessert was just right for our family. We are a pretty laid back crew so I think everyone enjoyed the meal. (Thanks again for all your help, Mom!)
One of my favorite things about this year's Easter was watching my son play with his cousins. My son was a toddler going on "tween" (that age between youth and teenager) that weekend because his cousins are at (or nearing) their teenage years. N loved playing with the boys and they were great to him! I have one funny picture of my son sitting (wedged) between his two cousins watching them play their PSP's on the couch. N is a toddler who is very interested in electronics and buttons, but he doesn't understand that they can break. He was dying to play the PSP's but was finally happy enough just watching the two boys play their PSP's when he could watch both of them at the same time. It looked like N was watching a tennis match or something.
As most of you know I have another sister who lives overseas. She obviously isn't able to make it home for every holiday, so she wasn't here at Easter, but she did send some really cool kites for the boys to have. Unfortunately the weather was kind of icky the days my family was here which made the ground far too wet to fly the kites, but I'm sure the boys will be able to play with them at home.
Pregnancy Update...After being pregnant for nearly four months I finally had four consecutive days of feeling "normal" this past week. Hallelujah!!! After feeling well for a few days I can now look back and realize just how sick I felt the past four months. I always have a difficult time judging how sick I feel while "I'm in the thick of it." I can now officially say I was definitely sicker the first trimester of this pregnancy than I was the last. Yuck-o! There are still foods that do not agree with me (mostly in the mornings) that I'd normally eat if I wasn't preggers, but I can identify what those are and avoid them. I still have to pace myself to make my "energy supply" last all day. I take power naps (20-30 minutes) when I need to so I can make it through the day. We'll see how the next couple weeks go. According to babycenter.com, the baby is supposed to double in size. If the baby grows that rapidly in the next couples of weeks I figure I'm either going to be very hungry or even more tired. The pregnancy calendar on their website is excellent for telling you what growth is taking place each week. It gives great pictures and descriptions of what's going on, but some of their comparisons are really funny. For example... Last week it said the baby should be about the size of an avocado.. Another comparison several weeks ago was a kumquat... what is a kumquat any way?
As for "Mr. N..."He is doing well. It is amazing how much he's grown both physically and developmentally in the last month. He talks incredibly well. He is telling full stories using full sentences all the time. He is also at the age where he is observing things, remembering them and talking about them later. Last night D, N and I decided to go out for dinner. I was trying on various shirt and pant combinations in the master bedroom. N was running back and forth between the bedroom and the master bath playing while I was doing this. I had no idea he realized I was trying clothes on. It took me about fifteen minutes (and five outfits) to figure out what I was going to wear. I went into the master bath to get N to tell him it was time to go downstairs. He was perched on top of his little wooden step stool brushing his teeth and Daddy's sink. I stood there smiling at him for a minute w/o saying anything. He looked at me in the mirror and smiled. Then he turned and faced me and said "You dressed up, Mommy!" I laughed and said "I did." He then looked down at my feet and said "Cute shoes!!" What a charmer!!
